This gingko tree is one of the most spectacular ones you have ever laid your eyes on. It sits between the walls of the Gu Guanyin Buddhist Temple in the Zhongnan Mountains in China.
Every autumn, a cover of golden leaves finds shelter under this 1,400-year-old-tree. The summer green leaves turn into into vibrant, bright yellow ones that leave you awestruck. This ginkgo tree has attracted tourists from all over the world for many years now. Sadly, only a few of this kind of tree still remains unexploited.
The Kew Gardens in England claims, “Ginkgo fossils are common in the rocks of the Jurassic and Cretaceous, but today Ginkgo biloba is the only member of its genus, which is the only genus in its family, which is the only family in its order, which is the only order in its subclass.”
The gingko tree is really ancient. However, it only grew in the gardens of temples in the East.Its seeds were only brought to Europe in the 1700s.
Experts believe that its decline is likely to be linked with the deforestation phenomenon.
What’s more surprising, the gingko tree is only survivor of an ancient group of trees even older than the dinosaurs!
