This is the place where it’s believed that Jesus Christ put a curse on

All around the world, the towns that have no myths whatsoever are quite rare to find. Almost every town is proud to offer up a legend. Chorazin is exactly a place that gives us one of the most interesting legends combined with a dose of religion, specifically Christianity.

According to the legend, the Messiah or Jesus Christ himself cursed this entire town back then. No wonder, the site today is completely abandoned with no trace of humanity in sight. However, if it weren’t for the alluring legend, Chorazin would be long-forgotten by humans.

Alongside Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum were the other towns that formed the evangelical triangle. In this famous triangle, Jesus Christ is said to have had performed most of his miracles.

Archaeologists have been constantly observing the place to find out more about it. However, since historical evidence and documents about this village’s abandonment are really scarce, there’s so much more that they would like to know.

According to the Jewish Talmud, Chorazin was a place blessed with an early harvest of grain. Archaeologists have managed to prove this reference. They have been able to find out that the entire area is rich in volcanic soil. This allowed the ground to heat up more quickly. As a result, more favorable conditions were produced for the grain to grow quicker and earlier than the rest of the other villages.

Another thing that the researchers have managed to reveal is related to Chorazin’s destruction. According to them, it was an earthquake that took place in the 4th century AD that completely deserted this place. However, further evidence has shown that in the 5th century, the town and reborn again.

The Bible states: “Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’s seat” (Matthew 23:2-4).

As it was mentioned above, archaeologists have constantly looking for more evidence about this place and its story. In a excavation that took place in the 19th century, their digging revealed a synagogue. Interestingly enough, “The seat of Moses,” or the stone from which the Torah was once read was found inside of this synagogue.

To some researchers, this was enough evidence that Chorazin was a biblical town.

In their excavations, archaeologists have found many other objects too such as: a public square, a ritual bathhouse, and a number of other buildings. What was common for all the buildings was their construction with dark volcanic rock.

However, all of these archaeological excavations haven’t been able yet to prove that the town was thriving during the first century, when Jesus was believed to have been alive.

Still, evidence found just outside of Chorazin suggests a first-century settlement. This evidence has led some people that maybe it’s this settlement that is the original location of Chorazin. If that is true, then it’s likely that all of these legends aren’t just legends after all.

According to the scripture and Bible, the street of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum were the main locations where Jesus performed his miracles for about three years. It is said that everyone who lived at the time witnessed his extreme power.

In addition, the scripture says that the citizens didn’t change their ways, despite everything. That’s why Jesus cursed this place by saying “Woe to you, Korazin… If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.”

According to some researchers, Chorazin citizens believed in paganism. That’s why they really didn’t want to “change their ways”. What makes this more believable is the fact that on one of the walls of the synagogue, the creepy head of Medusa was found.

However, mythological creatures and zodiac symbols on the Jewish temples wasn’t exactly unheard of back then. For this reason, there are still controversial opinions related to this topic.

To sum up, Chorazin is a fascinating place. Unfortunately, it’s only the legends, myths, and the Bible stories that don’t let this town be forgotten. Chorazin has been a mystery for centuries and it will most likely remain one for the upcoming ones too.
